Replacing the Steam valve assembly in Vienna and Trevi models

In order to replace steam valve assembly in the Saeco Vienna line & Spidem Trevi line models, the top cover has to be removed.
Parts required: # 34K steam valve kit (for all Vienna & Trevi models) . Order Kit Online
Tools required: Philip screw driver; Flat screw driver, Nose pliers and Torx screw drive, flash light, Food grade lubricant.
To remove top cover, use the following steps
1- remove water tank.

2- remove bean hopper. Unscrew two philip screws & remove bean hopper (see illustration).

3- remove steam valve knob with the cam-shaft. See illustration above.

4- Remove Torx screw (3). It is in the top rear edge below the water tank.

5- Below the bean hopper in the rear is philip-head screw inside a 2" deep hollow, as shown in the diagram.

Locate the screws in the illustration, that need to be removed. For access to screw (4), the Bean hopper must be removed first.

It is an ideal opportunity at this time, also to clean and adjust the grinder before closing the top cover. See link for Illustrated Grinder cleaning instructions, on the Espresso Maintenance page.

Also, it is advisable to replace the gasket in the water inlet below the tank (Part # 145841500).

5- Remove the philip screw from inside the deep hole (4) See illustration. This screw is located at the bottom, inside a 2" deep hole.
6- Remove two philip screws in the front lower left and lower right corners of the top cover. The right screw is visible just behind the steam pipe.

7- Lift the top cover from the back move it a 1/4" forward and 1/3" to the left in order to free the cover from the door hinge & the touch pad. Once freed, lift the cover up and lay it in the rear of the machine. While pulling the top cover out make sure that none of the wires is disconnected accidentally. If you disconnect any wire, make notes of the color and position of the wires. Tag the wires if necessary, to re-connect the wire exactly where it is disconnected.

8- Remove the hair-pin lock on the steam pipe and separate from the steam valve body.

Installation of the new steam valve body

Reverse the above steps in the same order (The steam knob is pushed on the cam, as the last step, after the cover is installed).

When replacing the cover, insert the screw# 4 in the hollow 2" deep space so it is visible from the bottom. Aim the visible bottom end of the screw into the hole, on the lower casing. Turn the screw two or three circles to hold its place. Settle the cover in its correct position. Complete installation by fastening all screws.

Note (1) - To insert O-rings, wet them with lube to facilitate easy sliding in. Seals work better when lubricated, especially the O-rings.

Note (2) - Use lubricant to lube the moving parts in the brew unit, like the piston gasket and the tracks in which the cup moves up & down for tamping the ground coffee.

Replacing internal parts

(Boiler, Pump, Thermostat, flowmeter) in Vienna & Trevi models

To access internal parts, the machine has to be removed from the lower casing. The internal parts are mounted on a flat plate that partitions the machine between the brew unit and the rest of internal parts. This partition slides into two tracks, one on each side. The entire plate is held at the bottom with a flexible plastic hook. To pull the plate up with all of the internal parts on it, it has to be freed from the bottom hook. To free the hook, follow the steps below:

1- Lay the machine on its back. Insert a flat screw driver in the slot as shown in the picture below. Insert the screw driver into slot shown in the picture below. While the screw driver is still inside the slot, pull the plate up enough (about 1/4") to make sure that it is released from the hook.

2- Remove the cable from the wedged grip.

3- Pull the parts plate up while simultaneously feeding the cable from below. The plate will not pull up easily of the cable is not pushed up from the bottom. Continue to pull the plate until the cable and its plug are out of the casing (and scream - "Its a Girl").

4- The entire internal parts assembly is out and available for testing and replacement of individual parts that are faulty.

5- Before disconnecting any wires make sure that they are tagged properly. Some wires can get disconnected during the pulling of  internal parts. Check closely to make sure that there are no lose wires before starting work on any other item. This is especially so for wires on the electronic control board and the wires on the heating element, thermostats and the door switch.
